Kindness Mattered

Linda had stayed with us in Transitional Living (TL) before. In September of 2011, she moved into an apartment with a friend but her friend moved out abruptly, leaving Linda homeless once again. She came in for lunch one day through Street Outreach, hungry and tired, and nowhere to go. She stayed a couple of nights in one of our crisis beds. During her stay she contacted an older male friend in N.C. that offered her a place to stay and she made plans to move. But uncertainty kept her in conflict: her friend was unwilling to talk to our staff about the arrangements and the move date kept changing. Eventually, Linda decided that option just didn’t feel safe to her. She continued to work with the staff in TL to develop goals for herself and re-entered the program. Because of her new-found courage and determination, Linda quickly moved through her Life Skills session. She found a job which strengthened her self esteem and began working on her anger management. After 6 months of diligent work and amazing progress, Linda was confident enough to try living on her own again. Through MDHA, she found an apartment of her own and applied for college!

Why Oasis? Without your compassion, Linda and 135 youth we worked with this year to find a stable living situation would not have the essential services and resources available here at Oasis.

We depend on you, our Oasis family, for support that ensures our work with youth like Linda continues. If you would consider a monthly or one-time contribution to help us continue our work with youth like Linda, visit us online: Why Oasis. For more information about our Street Outreach and Transitional Living programs, visit: Oasis Programs.
