Today’s teens face a myriad of difficult issues and struggles. Likewise, parents have the difficult job of providing a safe, supportive environment that helps their teens meet these challenges. For more than 35 years, Oasis Center has offered family, individual and group counseling designed to bring hope and healing for teens and families; build stronger, healthier relationships; discover personal strengths and resources; and find solutions that nurture ongoing positive growth.
Counseling
Oasis Center offers counseling services for youth ages 13-17 and their families. Through a partnership with Family and Children’s Services, we connect families with younger children to those who can better meet their needs.
Individual, family and group therapy is provided on a sliding fee scale, and no one is turned away because of inability to pay. Our counselors assist youth with recognizing their strengths and coping with the wide range of difficult issues they face: conflicts at home or school, alcohol and drug abuse, violence and physical abuse, as well as figuring out how and where they can strengthen their contribution in building a better community for us all. We receive financial support for counseling from United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and Williamson County United Way.
Family Mediation
Mediation is a facilitated process that works with unmarried parents to resolve issues of visitation, child support, custody, and delinquent and unruly behaviors of children. These parents are referred to mediation by the court system. Agreements arrived at through mediation may also include plans or family or individual therapy, crisis management and accessing resources in the future. The Mediation Program is funded by the Administrative Offices of the Courts, Tennessee Commission of Children and Youth and private donations.
Community Education and Therapeutic Groups
Oasis Center offers community education through workshops and support sessions that address a variety of issues and needs. Topics have included parenting skills; suicide prevention; depression, coping skills and mental health; conflict resolution; young women’s issues; safety for Gay and Lesbian youth; and effective communication with adolescents.
