Divas Nashvegas Makes History!

On Friday, April 27th, 2012, Oasis Center once again celebrated the accomplishments of 6 “Do-Rights” with Divas Nashvegas 2012: History In the Making! The Do-Rights were honored by young people who shared their accolades with our guests. Our 2012 honorees are: John Tighe, James Threalkill, Chris Sanders, Ron Samuels, Tom Negri, and Hal Cato. Congratulations to all of you!

Divas Nashvegas 2012: History in the Making featured Grammy award winning artist, Darius Rucker and our funny bones were tickled by emcee Leanne Morgan. It was a historical night out on the farm!

Oasis Welcomes New President & CEO!

We are delighted to announce that Tom Ward will be coming aboard as our new President and CEO! With 30 years of leadership experience within Metro Schools, and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities for young people in Nashville, Tom will be a valuable asset to the staff and youth we serve.

“Tom’s extensive leadership experience, commitment to at-risk youth, and reputation in the community are a potent combination as we work to further Oasis Center’s mission of helping young people grow, thrive and create positive change,” said Oasis Center board President Sara Hoover of Nissan, N.A. “We are truly elated to have him at the helm as we work to reach more youth and their families.”

Divas Nashvegas 2012, “History In the Making”!!

Darius Rucker’s deep baritone voice and skillful writing style catapulted Hootie & the Blowfish to phenomenal success in the 1990′s. The group won 2 Grammy’s, and sold more than 21 million albums, Their debut album “Cracked Rear View” produced 4 hits and went platinum 16 times. A few of those hits were “Hold My Hand”, “Let Her Cry”, and “Only Wanna Be With You”.

In 2009, Darius was named the CMA’s 2009 Newcomer of the Year.
His sophomore album as a country artist, “Charleston, SC 1966″ has produced four number 1 hits on the Billboard charts, along with
extensive road time with 2011 Divas guest stars & friends of Oasis, Lady Antebellum!

Kick Butts: Lives Cut Short

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health, along with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, the Tennessee Department of Health, and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture have teamed up with Oasis Center to reduce the sale and consumption of tobacco to youth!

In Tennessee, many lives are cut short due to tobacco usage. In order to show our support for National “Kick Butts Day”, TN’s Tobacco Coordinators are asked to have students paint/decorate a facsimile of “shorts” in honor of a life cut short.

• The canvas of the shorts will be provided along with a set of simple instructions on what to do and the pre-paid return mailers will be provided. We know your time is valuable so we hope this is a meaningful and easy service project.

• Monetary prizes will be given for the top 3 entries!

The shorts will be displayed in Legislative Plaza on March 21, 2012. The display will then tour other Nashville venues.

Please help us send the message to all Tennesseans that tobacco destroys lives!!

This project is supported through the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Grants provided by the Department of Mental Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.

“Some Assembly Required” on WPLN!

This powerful short film tells the stories of 3 “violence interrupters” who, with bravado, humility, and a bit of humor try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once participated in.
