Community volunteers serve a very important role in the ongoing operations and success of Oasis Center. A variety of ever-changing opportunities exist, some consisting of clerical duties such as data entry and helping with mass mailings. In addition, opportunities to work directly with the young people exist, including:

“Community Cares Night” at the Emergency Shelter: individuals and/or volunteer groups have the opportunity to cook dinner with teens staying in the shelter. A variety of activities, such as board games, arts projects, or simply “hanging out,” follow the dinner hour. Average time commitment: 2 hours per week

Emergency Shelter Volunteer: Volunteers are trained to spend informal time with the teens staying in the Oasis Emergency Shelter. Volunteers are also encouraged to use their specific interests, talents and skills with the teens. For example, volunteers who enjoy athletics can join shelter residents during an evening out at the local YMCA to teach them about weight training or fitness. This is a perfect opportunity for enthusiastic volunteers with demanding schedules. Average/suggested time commitment: 2-3 hours per week.
